The Ugunja Community Resource Centre (UCRC) is a community-based organization operating in Ugunja, Kenya. For over 10 years, the UCRC has worked to bring access to information to its rural community. We focus on issues concerning food security, sustainable agriculture (specifically organic farming and permaculture), peace-building, human rights, and the economic and social empowerment of youth and women.
On April 15th of this year, we will be taking part in an up-and-coming annual event intended to recognize and promote the efforts of youth volunteers around the world. The UCRC relies heavily upon the participation of youth volunteers in all of our activities (including the staffing of our office). In December 1999, the UCRC held a week-long festival entitled Youth Peace Week. The theme of the event was how to encourage youths to get involved in peace-building and decision-making processes. Youths, as well as national and international NGO's, from around the country volunteered their time and effort to come and share with us their approach to the promotion of youths and peace. It is with great joy and enthusiasm that we follow up this event with another one dedicated to youths.
